Race

The Grand Prix of Europe began in 1993 with a turbulent first round. While the Williams retained their positions at the start, Schumacher and Senna disabled so that Wendlinger could take over the third position. However, Senna was able to counter and initially overtook Schumacher and it Wendlinger. While also Schumacher Wendlinger came over, collided Michael Andretti and Wendlinger. Senna overtook during which Hill and took over before the end of the first round lead of Prost. Senna's compatriot Rubens Barrichello was also started well and improved in the first round of the twelfth to the fourth position.

After Martin Brundle was excreted after a spin and Ukyo Katayama was forced to retire with a broken clutch, dried off the track and most of the pilots switched to dry tires. JJ Lehto was eliminated in fifth place lying with handling problems. Berger, who took over the position, had to give up a little later with a damaged suspension. While Mark Blundell turned off the track, it started to rain again. Up to Schumacher, the pilots were at the top of the box. Short term he took the lead, but he turned and retired. While Philippe Alliot had to finish the race after an accident, Aguri Suzuki and Andrea de Cesaris retired with gearbox problems and Jean Alesi with a damage to the hydraulic pump.

After it is dry again, the pilots came again to switch to the box. Since Senna because of a problem lost 20 seconds Prost took the lead before Senna, Hill, Barrichello, Derek Warwick and Johnny Herbert. A short time later it began to rain again. This time, Senna decided against a stop and took the lead, as both Williams came into the pits. It was the right decision of the McLaren drivers, as the track dried out again soon. The Williams pilots thus had to change back to dry tires again. It cheers died from the engine to the box and he came in fourth place back on the track. He was overtaken by Senna. Barrichello was initially against Hill in second place, but after it started raining again and the pilots had to change their tires, he fell back to third place behind Hill and was also overtaken.

After Boutsen was excreted with a jammed throttle cable and Warwick with a gearbox failure, Barrichello also fell six laps with fuel pressure loss and thus missed his first podium in his third Formula 1 race.

Senna won the race in a dominant manner. Only the second-placed Hill, who over a minute behind McLaren had on the pilots, he could not overtake. Prost was third residue with a round. Also just a lap behind had Herbert, who in contrast to all other pilots that were placed in front, ran only once on the box and eventually finished fourth. The remaining points were awarded to Riccardo Patrese and Fabrizio Barbazza, who scored his first point in his first finish in Formula 1.

Senna scored the fastest lap in the 57th round by driving through the pit lane and failed to stop for a tire change. This was possible because there was no speed limit in the pit lane in 1993 and the pits at Donington is an abbreviation of the track.

Senna extended his lead in the drivers championship. His team, McLaren- Ford, took the lead in the constructors' championship for Williams Renault.

At the Grand Prix of Europe 1993, a new record at pit stops were prepared with 64 pit stops. This number was not surpassed until the Grand Prix of China 2010 in Shanghai with 67 pit stops.
