2000 British Grand Prix

The Grand Prix of Great Britain in 2000 took place on 23 April at the Silverstone Circuit in Silverstone place and was the fourth round of the Formula 1 season 2000. Winner was David Coulthard (McLaren -Mercedes) before Mika Häkkinen (McLaren -Mercedes) and Michael Schumacher ( Ferrari).

Background

After the Grand Prix of San Marino, Michael Schumacher led the drivers' championship with 21 points, ahead of Rubens Barrichello with 22 points, ahead of Giancarlo Fisichella. Ferrari resulted in the constructors' championship with 29 points ahead of McLaren -Mercedes with 31 points, ahead of Benetton Supertec.

Eddie Irvine played at the Grand Prix of Great Britain his 100th Grand Prix.

With Jacques Villeneuve (twice), Johnny Herbert, Michael Schumacher and David Coulthard ( once each ) were four former winners of this Grand Prix.

Training

In Friday's practice, which took place first under dry conditions and later under rain, scored Heinz -Harald Frentzen 's fastest lap in front of Eddie Irvine and Coulthard. The Saturday training took place in rainy weather. Mika Hakkinen came with the conditions cope best and achieved the fastest lap ahead of Michael Schumacher and Coulthard.

Qualifying

In qualifying on a drying track Barrichello set the fastest lap and scored his first pole position for Ferrari. On the second and third place followed Frentzen and Hakkinen.

Warm Up

Race

When starting Barrichello was able to defend its leadership position before Frentzen. Coulthard overtook his teammate and took the third position. Behind Hakkinen followed by Jenson Button, Villeneuve, Ralf Schumacher, Michael Schumacher, Jos Verstappen and Irvine. Already in the second round succeeded Villeneuve, Ralf Schumacher to overtake.
