2008–09 Top 14 season

The 2008/09 season was the 110th staging of the French rugby union championship. It included 14 teams in the top league top 14 and 16 teams in the second highest league Pro D2.

Top 14

The regular season of the top 14 had 26 game days (one forward and reverse round). It began on 26 August 2008 and lasted until 16 May 2009. The four best-placed teams qualified for the semifinals. In the final game, which took place on 6 June 2009 at the Stade de France, the semi-final winners play for the championship trophy Bouclier de Brennus. It won the USA Perpignan is the seventh time the championship title, while the ASM Clermont Auvergne failed for the tenth time in a playoff. The two last-place teams, the U.S. Dax and Stade Montois had to descend into the Pro D2.

  • 2 points for a draw
  • 0 points for a loss (before possible bonus points )

Pro D2

The regular season of the Pro D2 comprised 30 game days (one forward and reverse round). It began on September 7, 2008, and lasted until May 17, 2009. Highest placed team Racing Métro 92 rose to directly. The teams ranked 2-5 denied a playoff for the second promotion place, to which the SC Albi was able to secure on June 8, 2009. Two teams had to dismount in the amateur league Fédérale 1, the U.S. Bressane and AS Béziers.
