2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup

The 13 U-17 World Cup was held from 24 October to 15 November 2009 in Nigeria instead. World Champion was Switzerland, who won all of their seven games in the finals and defeated the hosts and defending champions. It is the first Swiss World Cup football title ever.

On 21 May 2009, FIFA warned Nigeria with the "Yellow Card". In nine possible venues only the two stages of Abuja and Lagos were nearly completed. As the tournament is to be held in at least six stages, four stages were in Calabar, Enugu, Ijebu -Ode and Kano, a "grace period " of one month. If the condition in only one of these stages will not meet the expectations of FIFA, the tournament would be moved to another country.

Bauchi and Kaduna closed the FIFA initially as game type, were finally allowed into the relatively large stadiums there but held games. The candidate city Warri was not considered as a venue because of armed conflict in Delta State.
