2011 Tour of Oman

The 2nd Tour of Oman (English Tour of Oman ) was a cycling stage race in Oman, which took place from 15th to 20th February 2011. It was played in six stages over a total distance of 848 kilometers. The race was part of the UCI Asia Tour 2011 and classified there in the category 2.1.

The Dutchman Robert Gesink of Rabobank secured over a minute ahead of Norwegian Edvald Boasson Hagen (Sky Procycling ) and Giovanni Visconti, Italian Farnese Vini- Neri of sottoli, the overall victory.

Participant

A total of ten ProTeam were invited by the organizing Amaury Sport Organisation. Moreover attended six Professional Continental team. All participating teams had a few days before participating in the Tour of Qatar. Nine German, three Swiss and Austrians were not nominated.

 

 

 

 

Stages and race course

The first three days went sections without major topographical difficulties near the Gulf of Oman. The mass sprint of the first stage convincingly won the Rabobank Cycling Team pro Theo Bos, on the second leg victory Matthew Goss (HTC -Highroad ) and drove into the Red jersey of overall leader before Bos fought back on the third day with another win.

A preliminary decision for the overall victory fell to the fourth stage, which leads up to the interior led to the " Green Mountain ", which was 5.8 km long and an average of 10.3% steep. With a superior solo victory - 47 seconds, the projection was on the tracker Edvald Boasson Hagen - Robert Gesink secured the overall lead, which he was able to expand by a further victory in the time trial of Al Jissah, which also included two climbs, somewhat surprising. The flat last section secured in the sprint Mark Cavendish (HTC -Highroad ).
