AGM-64 Hornet

AGM -64 Hornet was an American air - to-ground missile that does not make it past the status as the test vehicle.

In 1960 a project called ATGAR (Anti -Tank Guided Aircraft Rocket ) was held under the supervision of the U.S. Air Force. Ultimately, the project was not realized, but the obtained results were so impressive that the Air Force, the North American company commissioned to develop an air - to-ground missile named AGM -64 Hornet. The Hornet was equipped with a TV seeker and a solid - rocket propulsion. 1964 saw the first tests were conducted under the name XAGM -64A. However, it was decided that the project is canceled in favor of the better regarded as AGM-65 Maverick.

Thereafter, the Hornet in 1968, used before TERMINATION end of the project as a test platform for different target systems. Among others, a laser aiming system were tested on her, which was later used in the AGM-114 Hellfire.
