Alfa Romeo Mito (2008-2013)

The Alfa Romeo MiTo (internal ZAR 955 ) is a three-door small car of Italian car manufacturer Alfa Romeo on the technical basis of the Fiat Grande Punto. He was introduced in the spring of 2008, the press, public display in the summer of 2008 at the British International Motor Show in London for the first time and came at the same time in the trade.

The name MiTo is composed of the abbreviations of the cities of Milan and Turin together on motor vehicle registration. The first is the original seat of Alfa Romeo, the second the seat of today's roof Fiat Group and of production of the vehicle. As an Italian word, the four letters mean myth. The name was found by a call on the Internet and paid for an Alfa Romeo Spider.

Vehicle characteristics

The design of the MiTo is based on the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione. As is usual for a coupé, the side doors of the Mito no window frame. The tailgate is unusually small, which is the rigidity of the body wholesome. The drive is equipped with an electronic differential lock. With an exterior length of about 4 m of the MiTo is one of the larger vehicles in its class.

A special technical feature of the MiTo is the standard system DNA (Dynamic - Normal - All Weather ), which enables the customization of vehicle dynamics control, differential lock, brakes, steering and engine to sporty driving style over a three -position switch on the center console.

Initially there were two petrol engines and one diesel engine to choose from, each combined with a manual six-speed gearbox. At the turn was added a five-speed gearbox and a smaller diesel engine.

In the fall of 2009, the MiTo was the first series-produced car with hydraulic valve control. The MultiAir system is a selective control of each valve and allows more torque and more power with less fuel consumption and less emissions. The most powerful version of the engine makes in the added top model Quadrifoglio Verde with electronically controlled shock absorbers 125 kW. MultiAir is combined with a start-stop system.

2010, a dual clutch transmission was introduced, optionally with additional control on the steering wheel.

Since early 2011, both diesel engines with start-stop system will be delivered.

In the fall of 2013, the Mito has been slightly revised. Since then, the two-cylinder engine with a 15 kW ( 21 hp ) ( 105 PS) has increased to 77 kW power. Visually, the radiator grille with chrome edging now is a distinguishing feature of this model care.
