History

The city of Almere presented the mid-1990s on a plan to promote attractive sports in the city. In addition to sports such as volleyball and basketball wanted to establish a professional football club based in the city. This plan was adopted in the sense that Almere is around 2015 have about 250,000 inhabitants. The idea was that in a large city include large-scale facilities; not only in the health and cultural sectors, but also in sports.

The urban development organization Almada was selected in the fall of 1996 to develop and concretize the sporting ambitions along with the city. It was a year later founded Omniworld also a sports club, which should offer many sports under one roof. After the city council elections in 2002 in which the party Leefbar Almere, which is against professional football won in Almere, Almere distanced from the plans. This could not be realized with taxpayers' money.

So it did not make FC Omniworld 2004 to fulfill the license terms for the Dutch professional football. From the private sector, the financial resources to continue playing came. The beginning of 2005 fulfilled Omniworld an important point of the license terms. The planning permission for the stadium was granted.
