Ann Arbor Blues and Jazz Festival

The Ann Arbor Blues & Jazz Festival was taking place every since 1969 Blues and Jazz Festival in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

History

Originally a blues festival, it was extended in 1972 to jazz music and wore about his name. Yet supported at the beginning of the University of Michigan, the festival turned into a worn by volunteers event, which was conducted in cooperation with the city. After the festival in 1974 a big break until 1991, was inserted, as it came to changes in city government and the Republicans took over the majority and there was no permission for a festival in Gallup Park. It hosted the festival in 1974 in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. However, since many potential viewers were prevented from crossing the border, the festival was a financial fiasco. It seems that the Ann Arbor Blues and Jazz Festival for financial reasons takes a break after the program has been limited in the years before that.

The festival was held in the following locations:

  • Gallup Park
  • The Michigan Theater
  • The Bird of Paradise Jazz Club

At the beginning of its history, the festival was a completely open-air event, but came in time added the Michigan Theater and the Bird of Paradise Jazz Club as venues. In addition to the concerts, there were more activities, a children's tent in Gallup Park, an education program and a Meet the Artist program where you could learn about emerging artists.

Also the following albums were recorded at the festival (There is also video footage, but these were never published):

  • " Please Mr. Foreman ": Motor City Blues of the Ann Arbor Blues & Jazz Festival 1973 schoolkid 's Records SKR 2101-2
