Anton Konovalov

Anton Nikolaevich Konovalov (Russian Антон Николаевич Коновалов; born 18 January 1985 in Khabarovsk ) is a former Russian skier. He started in all disciplines and participated in three World Cups and the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in part, remained in the World and European but without result.

Career

Anton Konovalov took from January 2001 participate in FIS races and reached in December of the same year as the second in the slalom in Absakowo his first of seven podium finishes. Even outside of his home country, he scored good results, including a third place in the slalom of upper yoke in January 2004. After another top-10 results in FIS races and at the Russian Championships Konovalov was for the 2003 World Cup nominated in St. Moritz. There he started in slalom, giant slalom and Super- G, but only got as 44th in the giant slalom to the finish. In its second World Cup appearance in 2005 in Bormio, he denied the slalom, where he was 25, and the giant slalom, in which he, however, failed. At the Junior World Championships, where he took part from 2002 to 2005, Better results were his best results of the 19th place in the slalom in 2004 and 26th place in the slalom in 2005. Reach him at the Universiade, where he participated three times. Was still 2003 in Tarvisio a 20th place in the giant slalom his best result, two years later he won at the Universiade 2005 in Innsbruck the bronze medal in the Super- G and also finished tenth in the downhill. Another top 10 finish he managed eighth place in the Super G at the Universiade 2007 in Bardonecchia.

In winter 2003/ 04 Konovalov denied his first three races in the European Cup, but came in none of these slaloms in the standings. More European Cup starts did not follow the time being, but he started on 23 October 2005 in the giant slalom in Soelden for the first and only time in a World Cup race, where he qualified for the second run but failed as the 58th of the first passage by almost four seconds. Four months after this World Cup start, he took part in the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin as one of five Russian men. Konovalov achieved the 29th place in the slalom - in which he was the only one of his country in the rating - and rank 42 in the Super -G, but fell in the combination. In the season 2006/ 07 he returned to some of the European Cup inserts, but was again in all races without countable result. His last major event was the 2007 World Championships in Åre. In the inaugural qualifying race in both the slalom and giant slalom, he managed to qualify for the main competitions, but where he came only 34th in the giant slalom to the finish and was eliminated in the slalom. He also participated in the super combined, where he was 30, and at the Super -G, which he finished in 50th place. His last FIS races contested Konovalov in November 2007.
