Argonay
Argonay until 1971 Argonnex, is a village in Haute - Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.
Geography
Argonay is located on 545 m above sea level. M., about five kilometers north of the town of Annecy (air line). The village extends slightly increased on the northern edge of the basin from Annecy in the foothills of the Alps, on the Talniederung of Fier, at the foot of the hill of Saint -Martin- Bellevue, in Genevois.
The area of 5.16 square kilometers municipal area includes a portion of the basin of Annecy. The southern boundary runs along the Fier as it flows from east to west by a Talniederung. His side stream flows Filière east of the village. This is in his sunken into the environment V-shaped valley, which is predominantly forested, the eastern boundary. From the course of the River Fier, the municipality's area extends northward over the slope of Argonay up to the height of Saint -Martin- Bellevue. Here is 738 m above sea level. Neighboring communities of Argonay are Saint -Martin -Bellevue in the north, the east Villaz, Annecy -le- Vieux in the south and in the west Pringy.
History
In the Middle Ages Argonay formed under the counts of Geneva own little rule. By decree, the present notation Argonay was introduced in 1971, was previously called the church officially Argonnex.
Attractions
The village church of Argonay dates from the 16th century and remodeled in the 18th century. In Les Convers is a chapel. To the west of the village is the seat of power de Barrioz.
Population
With 2608 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Argonay one of the smaller towns in the Haute-Savoie region. Since the early 1960s, was thanks to the beautiful residential area and close to Annecy has noted a significant increase in population. Outside the old town center numerous single-family homes were built. The settlement area has grown together almost seamlessly with that of Pringy. The municipality is part of the agglomeration of Annecy.
Economy and infrastructure
Argonay has long been a predominantly coined by agriculture village. During the second half of the 20th century was the rapid development to a suburban town of Annecy. Together with Pringy to Argonay shares a large industrial and commercial zone. The village region has a very well developed. It is located near the main road N203 that runs from Annecy to La Roche- sur -Foron and on to Annemasse. Further road links exist with Pringy and Saint -Martin- Bellevue. The nearest links to the A41 motorway is located at a distance of about four kilometers. Argonay had a station on the railway line Aix -les- Bains- Annemasse.
