History

The arrondissement Mantes was created on February 18, 1800 within the former departments of Seine -et- Oise. It was dissolved in 1926 and 1943 re-established. From 1800 to 1926 the district had five cantons: Mantes, Bonnières, Limay, Houdan and Magny. On 31 December 1943, the district was restored with six cantons: the five previous was added Meulan, which belonged to the Arrondissement Versailles until then. On January 1, 1964 with the establishment of the department of Yvelines and Val- d'Oise, the Canton Magny was added to the Arrondissement Pontoise.
