Asterix and Caesar's Gift

The gift of Caesar ( original French title: Le Cadeau de César ) is a comic in the Asterix series, written by René Goscinny and drawn by Albert Uderzo. The comic first appeared in 1974 as the 21st volume of the series.

Action

Caesar gifted soldiers who have served twenty years the army, with lands. Below is Keinentschlus, a drunkard who has insulted the noise Caesar. Caesar gives him a punishment as a trading estate Gallic village. Keinentschlus may be a few days later in a bar the bill does not pay and gives the plaque with the seal of Caesar, which identifies him as the owner of the Gallic village, the host Orthopädix.

Orthopädix then travels with his wife and daughter sequin for Gallic village and announces to his claim of ownership. He laughed, but it offers him to open a guest house in the village. He accepts. At the opening ceremony there is a dispute between the wife and the wife of Majestix Orthopädix, whereupon they decide to hold an election. Who gets more votes, to be chief of the village. Majestix and Orthopädix now vying for the favor of the villagers. In the meantime, the former soldier Keinentschlus comes into Gallic village and demanding the return of his property, but this is denied. He now goes to the Roman camp and calls for assistance.

Majestix asks the druid Getafix to give him magic potion in order to market to other competitors, which Getafix refuses angry and makes it clear that no one gets a potion. The Romans grab it with catapults. Only when Majestix asks the druid to cook the potion for his opponent, agrees to this and the Gauls can defeat the Romans. Orthopädix destroys the plaque with the seal of Caesar and decides to move with his family to Lutetia. The Gauls celebrate their victory over the Romans at a banquet.

Comments

The election campaign between Majestix and Orthopädix is an allusion to the power struggle between the French politicians Mitterrand and Giscard.

Publication

This was the first Asterix story that has not been presented in France in Pilote in advance to the audience. Instead, the story appeared from July 11, 1974 as a series in Le Monde. The first edition of the book Le Cadeau de Cesar was in the same year at Dargaud as Volume 21 of the series. In Germany, the story was first shown in 1975 in the editions of the magazine 3 to 13 MV ComixDie. The German edition of the book appeared on March 9, 1976 Ehapa. With the 2002 reissue of the band was given a new title screen.

The band appeared among others in English, Spanish, Turkish, and in the dialects of Thuringia and South Tyrol.
