Astrid Krebsbach

Astrid Melanie Beatrix Mary Krebsbach - Astrid Hobohm later, after Astrid Horn ( born February 9, 1913 in Vienna, † September 17, 1995 in Quedlinburg ) was one of Germany's most successful table tennis players. They also had in Saxony-Anhalt still successes in tennis.

Career

Astrid Krebsbach was born in 1913 in Vienna. Her mother Maria Johanna born Weitz Auer was Austrian, but since her father Otto Krebsbach " German Reich " was, Astrid had the German nationality. Astrid got three younger siblings, namely Eva Maria Elisabeth Johanna (13 January 1916), Senta Maria Anna Margarete (12 April 1917) and Vera Martina (17 March 1924).

Astrid first attended a school in Bitterfeld and after a move in 1925 to Wittenberg Melanchthon Gymnasium. Then she trained at a higher commercial school for foreign correspondent.

Astrid's family was active in sports, both parents played tennis, her father additionally table tennis. Both sports were tended, in the summer they played at that time often tennis, in the winter (for lack of indoor tennis courts ), however, table tennis.

Very early won Astrid great sporting successes especially in table tennis, from cities across the country Championships and German Championships up to the World Championships.

The sisters Eva and Senta played very successful table tennis, though not internationally. So they won 1936/37 with BSG Osram Berlin, the German team championship of the ladies.

In May 1931, the family moved to Berlin. 1933 Astrid got her first job at the water knife -Vertriebs GmbH in Berlin.

A year later, she won her biggest successes: She won at the World Table Tennis Championships in Paris the silver medal in singles, with the women's team was world champion. They beat surprisingly the then five -time world champion Maria Mednyanszky as well as the reigning world champion Anna Sipos. Had she not won the team competition against the Czech Marie Kettnerová, so they had to close defeat against the same opponent in the singles final.

In 1936, she converted to Evangelical-Lutheran faith. In March this year she won again the silver medal at the World Championships in Prague, and on April 18 she married Dr. Ernst Friedemann Hobohm and moved to Quedlinburg to. Then she stepped back to the table tennis sport, and in 1941 she reappeared regularly in the winners' list at the German championships.

In January 1949, their marriage ended in divorce. On September 14, 1949, she married for the second time, the table tennis player Rolf Horn of Quedlinburg.

Most recently, she played in the team of motor Quedlinburg, where she finished her playing career after the 1954/55 season.
