Atlético Nacional

Atlético Nacional ( complete: Club Atlético Nacional SA ) is a football team founded in 1947 from Medellin, the second largest city in Colombia. The winner of the Copa Libertadores in 1989 is one of the most important clubs in the country and owes its sporty rise from the late 1980s and the financial support by Pablo Escobar.

Local rivals Nacional Independiente Medellín is, but the fans see in América and Deportivo Cali and Millonarios from the capital Bogotá her " favorite enemy ".

Atlético Nacional won the Colombian football championship for the first time in 1954. Between 1973 and 2011, followed by another ten championships.

It is named after a hero of the Colombian War of Independence in the early 19th century.
