Aulx-lès-Cromary

Aulx -lès- Cromary is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Aulx -lès- Cromary situated at an altitude of 230 m above sea level, 6 km south-southeast of Rioz and about 16 km north- northeast of the city of Besançon (air line). The village extends to the south of the department in the wide valley of Ognon which reaches out here with a big bow to the south, north of the ridge of the Fort de la Dame Blanche ( Grande Cote ).

The area of ​​4.33 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the middle Ognon Valley. The southern and eastern boundary runs mostly along the Ognon. This draws here a large sheet and flowing through an alluvial plain, which has a width of one to two kilometers and is on average 220 ​​m. Because of the high water table, former sand pits are now filled with water and used for various recreational activities. From the river, the municipality's area extends north across the valley to the adjacent plateau, partly forested, is passed partly under arable and meadow land. It consists of an alternation of calcareous and sandy- marly layers of the upper Jurassic period. With 273 m find the highest mountains of Aulx -lès- Cromary is achieved. To the west of the municipality of soil on the plateau extends to the wooded valley section of the Ruisseau de Malgérard, a right tributary of the Ognon.

Neighboring communities of Aulx -lès- Cromary are Chambornay -lès- Bellevaux in the north, Thurey -le -Mont to the east, Moncey, Venise and Palise in the south and Cromary and Sorans -lès -Breurey in the West.

History

Is first mentioned Aulx in 1229. Those days it was owned by the monastery Bellevaux. In the Middle Ages Aulx belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Aulx -lès- Cromary is a member of the 28 localities comprehensive community association Communauté de communes du Pays Riolais.

Attractions

The Château de la Vaivre in Ognontal opposite Palise was built in the 16th century and was the residence of the Maréchal of Moncey. In the village are houses from the 18th and 19th centuries have been preserved, showing the characteristic style of the Haute -Saône.

Population

With 149 inhabitants ( 2005) Aulx -lès- Cromary is one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (1906 128 persons were still counted ), a continuous population growth was recorded since the early 1970s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Aulx -lès- Cromary was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. The exploitation of sand pits in Ognontal has now been abandoned. Today there are various businesses of the local small business sector. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in the larger towns in the area and agglomeration in Besançon.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Rioz after Chaudefontaine. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about 8 km. Further road links exist with Cromary and Cirey.
