The Autovia A-7 Mediterranean Highway spanish, catalan Autovia del Mediterrani (both terms on German " Mediterranean motorway " ), is a free motorway of the Spanish national road network, which is part of the European route 15. It begins at Algeciras, a port city in the province of Cádiz in the autonomous community of Andalusia and ends east of Tarragona on the Autopista AP- seventh A further construction to the east of Barcelona is planned.

The road consists of the developed to the motorway sections leading from Cadiz to Barcelona national road N- 340. In some places, the expansion of the standard dual carriageway A-7 does not correspond to that of a highway, because there are in the course of the same level of road junctions and roundabouts. Just as often lacks the hard shoulder.

Course

The Autovia A-7 runs parallel to the Mediterranean coast of Spain and is the longest motorway. It starts in the south of Algeciras with 102 km and about leads, Málaga, Motril, Almeria, Vera, Lorca, Murcia, Orihuela, Elche, Alicante, Valencia, Castellón Tarragona, where the highway east of the city ends.

Although the city of Algeciras passage carries the blue signs of the A-7, but is only partly a highway. The separate carriageways are provided with red kilometer signs and crossing with traffic lights controlled roundabouts. From km 108 the road is built as a motorway.

In Torreguardiaro the highway from km 133 continues as Autopista AP- 7 during the signaling of the A-7 of the former N -340 follows. In Estepona at km 154, the A-7 is back to the highway.

In Marbella the road between km 170 and km 172 passes under a tunnel, the town of San Pedro de Alcántara.

Along the Costa Tropical, the A-7 passes under several tunnels in the foothills of the Betic Cordillera. The longest is 2170m long Cantalobos Tunnel, which was awarded in 2010 in the European Tunnel Assessment Programme ( EuroTAP ) as the second safest tunnel.

Opened in 1990, section Murcia -Alicante was originally built as a continuation of the AP -7 west of Alicante. In this section proceeds as in the AP -7 kilometer from west to east, while the other sections of the A-7 from east to west are kilometriert.

The A- 7 has two lanes per carriageway, only at Alicante and Murcia, as well as on the section Sagunto - Albacete, there are three lanes in each carriageway.
