Avatar (Swedish band)

Avatar is a Swedish melodic death metal band from Gothenburg. The band was founded in 2001 under the name Lost Soul.

Band History

The band was founded in 2001 by John Alfredsson under the name Lost Soul. Shortly after, shock Jonas Jarlsby to the band added, but the band's name was decisive party to the lack of interest of potential members, after which the band was renamed to Avatar. Shortly after the name change to other members of the band started and found a song by Cannibal Corpse, chose to cover In Flames, Iron Maiden, Slayer, Vader and Helloween.

2003 the band did their first shows, but John left the band briefly, but returned a short time later back again after two potential musicians are been joined to the band with Henrik Sandelin and Simon Andersson. In the summer of the same year she co-wrote their own songs, with which the first demo was recorded Personal Observations among others. However, these recordings marked the band as a disaster, which she bought because new guitars and their recordings repeated. After staff Observations were completed, they were trying to market these and played their first concerts. During this time they took the EP 4 Reasons to Die on. To which they participated in more talent shows, which meant that their fan base around Gothenburg grew steadily. The band played more concerts in the complete Swedish west coast and for the first time outside of Sweden in Copenhagen. Although the success of the band has been steadily larger, the band received no request from a record company. Thus, the band paid the first recording their first album itself

In early 2006, the debut album Thoughts of No Tomorrow, after which the band with Hardcore Superstar and Dismember held its first joint concerts in Scandinavia. Then the band went in May along with Impaled Nazarene for the first time on a European tour. Within the same year followed by other concerts and a second European tour with Evergrey. 2007 Avatar toured with Stone Sour and In Flames through Scandinavia. In summer, they then played with, among others, on the Hultsfredfestival. On 24 October 2007 the band released their second album battle. The album contained unlike the debut album for the first time True Metal influences. Following the publication of a small tour followed by Sweden with Soilwork, Death Breath, Volbeat and Pain.

In January 2008, the band toured together with Obituary and Holy Moses again across Europe and played a month later as the opening act at a concert of Megadeth with. To which the band was represented in Close -Up Magazine. This was followed by further concerts with Soilwork, Backyard Babies, Danko Jones and Municipal Waste. Then the band started their first overseas tour to the USA, where they played with bands like Enslaved or Sabaton. This was followed by another appearance at the Sweden Rock Festival.

2009 put the band a little break and started new songs for their third album to write. After the recordings were completed, they toured with Hardcore Superstar once again of Europe to play as a headliner next to Within Y and Degradead on several shows. This was followed by the self-titled album Avatar, which first reached the charts at # 36 in Sweden this year.

For the summer of 2010 also the release of the DVD Blood, Noise, Fire, Metal was planned on which video material should be located from a concert in Gothenburg. Originally, the publication for June 18 was scheduled. Due to printing delays in the booklet accompanying the release date was delayed by almost two weeks in late June, the album is not yet commercially available as before.
