Badajoz Airport (Spanish Aeropuerto de Badajoz ) is a Spanish airport, operated by the state-owned airport operator AENA. The airport is used as a base Aérea de Talavera la Real by the Spanish Air Force. The assigned city of Badajoz is located about 13 kilometers to the west.

History

The history of the airport dates back to the 1930s, when the Aeródromo Las Bardocas arose between the rivers Gévora and Guadiana. During the Spanish Civil War from 1937 and its aftermath, the square served the elementary flying training the Spanish Air Force. The German Condor Legion used temporarily on the pitch.

Later, a new location was sought and the early 1950s, work began on the present site. The school flight operation of the Escuela de Reactores began in 1953. Shortly afterwards, after the plants have been extended to the airport from 1958 also civilian flights could check in.

The inclusion of a first line connection was delayed until the start of the line to Madrid on July 14, 1976, however, by several years. Due to complications with the military and civilian operating on an apron was built from 1980 to 1983 a separate civil area, the first with the timetable change in 1990, the Badajoz twice daily Madrid- connection and twice weekly Barcelona compound arrested but was put into operation.

Due to strong growth in passenger numbers and air links, it was decided to expand the civil area, which was completed in July 2010. The terminal area was doubled to 4,400 square feet, doubling the apron from 17,000 to 35,000 square meters and the number of parking spaces for cars increased to 222.

Military use

As a military airfield Talavera serves as a training base and is home to the Ala 23 ( wing span, a squadron ) with the Escuadróns 231 and 232. Focus is the advanced training, including both squadrons are equipped with the F -5M.

Civil use

Until January 2012 Air Nostrum offered flights to Madrid -Barajas and Barcelona El -Prat. Since March 26, 2012 Airphil Express flew daily to Madrid -Barajas. Express Airlines used 72 aircraft for these flights ATR, which offered space for 66 passengers. Express worked at Terminal T2, switches 502-503. In February 2013, all flights from Airphil Express have been discontinued. After 5 months with no scheduled flights, adopted on 1 July 2013 on Air Europa flights to Madrid -Barajas and Barcelona -El Prat. The flights will be 72 aircraft every day except Saturdays and Sundays, operated by Swiftair with ATR.
