Baicheng

Baicheng (Chinese白城, Pinyin bái chéng, White City ') is a prefecture-level city in northeastern China's Jilin province.

Geography

Baicheng lies on the border of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The administrative area of the city has an area of ​​25,683 km ² and approximately 2.01 million inhabitants ( end of 2004).

Administrative Divisions

At county level, Baicheng is composed of a municipality, two counties and two independent cities together. These are:

  • Municipality Taobei (洮北区), 2525 km ², 490,000 inhabitants, the city center and seat of the municipal government;
  • Circle Zhenlai (镇赉县), 4695 km ², 310,000 inhabitants, capital: greater community Zhenlai (镇赉 镇);

  • City Taonan (洮南 市), 5108 km ², 440,000 inhabitants;
  • Da'an City (大安市), 4879 km ², 420,000 inhabitants.

History

Baicheng was in 1904 appointed to the county seat, was there but still Jing'an. 1914, the city was only renamed Tao'an, and then again in 1950 renamed in Baicheng, which translates as "White City " is in Chinese. The name comes from the Baicheng original Mongolian name of the city Qaganhôt, which also "White City " is. Baicheng belonged to the province of Heilongjiang, until 1954, the provincial boundaries were reorganized and the city of Jilin province was attributed.

Economy

Today Baicheng is a center of the textile industry, but also leather and pottery are produced here. Agriculture Baichengs mainly produces soybeans and oil plants.

Traffic

Baicheng stands at the intersection of three main railway lines of the People's Republic. The railroad connects with Qiqihar Baicheng and other major cities in Northeast China.

Culture

In Baicheng ancient finds were found during archaeological excavations, which could be dated to about 2000 BC.
