Balçova is a district of the Turkish province of Izmir and at the same time a municipality of Büyükşehir Belediyesi ( city municipality ) Izmir.

Geography

Balçova lies to the west of the city center on the southern shore of the Gulf of Smyrna ( İzmir Turkish Körfezi ). The county is bordered on the west by Narlıdere, to the south Karabağlar and Buca and on the east by Konak, the center of the city. To the north lies the Gulf of Izmir with the Inciralti - beach, a lagoon and the capes Çakal Burnu to the east and Yeni Kale Burnu in the West. In the center of the district of the mountain Atatepe is a recreation area and a viewing platform to which the 1000 -meter-long cable car Teleferik leads. South of it is the reservoir Balçova Baraji.

In Balçova the University of Economics in Izmir ( Izmir Ekonomi Üniversitesi ) and a ship museum lie.

Sports

The city council bought under the leadership of Mayor Mehmet Ali Çalkaya in summer 2012 the amateur club Fahrettin Altay SK its competition and naming rights from and then took their newly founded company football team Balçova Belediyespor part in their place in the competition. In the first season the club's fourth highest Turkish league celebrated promotion to the third TFF Lig in professional football.
