Barbara Hannigan

Barbara Hannigan (born 1971 in Waverley ( Nova Scotia ) ) is a Canadian soprano and conductor.

Training

Hannigan grew up in a musical family and was encouraged in her home community of music teachers: "Every household had a piano, so I just got into music and singing. " By 17, she moved to Toronto, where she studied with Mary Morrison. In 1993, she earned a Bachelor of Music at the University of Toronto, 1998 just there a Master of Music. As a conductor

2010 debuted the Hannigan as a conductor at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, Stravinsky's Renard. Since then she has led, among other things, the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, the London Sinfonietta and the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, the WDR Radio Orchestra Cologne, the Orchestra della Toscana, the Gulbenkian Orchestra in Lisbon. Even as a conductor sets the artist to focus on music of the 20th and 21st centuries.

Personal

Hannigan is married to the Dutch theater director Gijs de Lange and lives in Amsterdam. The pair worked together in 2006 a production of The Mikado for the National Reisopera in the Netherlands.
