Barinas (state)

Barinas is a state of Venezuela. The capital is Barinas. The former president of the country, Hugo Chavez, was born in that State. The current governor is his brother and former Education Minister, Adán Chávez Frías. The mayor of the municipality of Alberto Arvelo Torrealba, Anibal Chavez, is also a brother of the former president.

Geography

Barinas is located mainly in the Llanos. The area consists mainly of very flat pasture lands are crossed by numerous rivers. In the northwest you will find a mountainous hem, part of the Venezuelan Andes. The Apurefluss forms the southern border of the state.

History

Georg Hohermuth of Speyer and Nicholas spring man explored the region in 1534 on their way to the Andes.

In 1542 Philipp von Hutten traveled from Coro about this area towards Colombia. In 1547 Alonso Pérez de Tolosa, who came from El tocuyo, the territory of Barinas crossed.
