Bayan Nur (Chinese巴彦淖尔 市/巴彦淖尔 市, pinyin Bayannao'er Shì ) is a prefecture-level city in the west of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in northern China. Bayan Nur received his Mongolian name, the rich lake means, because of the numerous freshwater lakes in the area.

History

The colonization of Bayan Nur in the Neolithic period is impressively demonstrated by the known rock art of the Yinshan Mountains. At the time of the Warring it belonged to the Zhao kingdom. In this period, a significant section of the Great Wall was built by the current administrative area already. Adopted by the Han Dynasty, the ancient Chinese administrative structures have been introduced in this area. At the time of the Qing Dynasty Bayan was incorporated only in Inner Mongolia, by the end, with the founding of the Republic of China, it was part of the province Suiyuan.

In the course of reforming the city Bayan Nur on 1 December 2003 from the Bayan Nur Association (巴彦淖尔 盟Bayannao'er Meng ) has emerged. Here, the former independent city Linhe was converted into a municipality.

Geographical location

The city center is just west of the northernmost point of the river of the Yellow River in Inner Mongolia. The entire administrative area of Bayan Nur is bordered to the north by the State of Mongolia, to the west by the Alxa Association, on the south by the city of Ordos and on the east by the city of Baotou.

Traffic

The road and motorway network to the city, as well as in the administrative area are expanded state. The newly built and opened in December 2011, the airport is located in Wuyuan county, about 50 km stretch of motorway from the capital center.

Administrative Divisions

The city of Bayan Nur is composed at the county level from a municipality, two circles and four banners. These are:

  • (1) City District Linhe (临河 区), 2354 km ², 550,000 inhabitants ( 2004), seat of city government administrative center;
  • ( 2) Wuyuan county (五 原 县), 2493 km ², 280,000 inhabitants ( 2004), capital: greater community Longxingchang (隆兴 昌镇);
  • ( 3) circle Dengkou (磴口县), 4167 km ², 120,000 inhabitants, capital: greater community Bayangol (巴彦 高 勒 镇);
  • (4 ) Front urad Banner (乌拉特前旗), 7476 km ², 340,000 inhabitants ( 2004), capital: greater community Ulashan (乌拉 山镇);
  • (5 ) Mid- urad Banner (乌拉特 中 旗), 22,606 km ², 140,000 inhabitants (2004), capital: greater community Hailiut (海流 图 镇);
  • (6 ) Rear urad Banner (乌拉特 后 旗), 24,925 km ², 81,000 inhabitants ( 2011), capital: greater community Bayan Bolig (巴音 宝 力 格 镇);
  • (7 ) Rear Hanggin banner (杭锦后旗) 1767 km ², 300,000 inhabitants ( 2004), capital: greater community Sanba (陕 坝镇).
