Beblenheim

Beblenheim ( German Bebelsheim ) is a commune with 978 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Haut-Rhin in the Alsace region. It belongs to the community association Ribeauvillé.

Geography

Beblenheim located in the western Upper Rhine valley on the eastern edge of the Vosges, about 12 kilometers north of Colmar. Neighboring municipalities are Mittelwihr (1.2 km), Bennwihr ( 2 km), cells Mountain ( 2.6 km ), Hunawihr (4,5 km ), Ribeauvillé (4.9 ) km and Sigolsheim ( 5 km).

History

In 1128 the town was mentioned under the name Babilenheim the first time in a land register of the monastery Marmoutier.

In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Counts of Eguisheim, after its expiry in 1147 of the county Pfirt. Through marriage, it went to the Earl of Horbourg, which then sold it in 1324 to the House of Württemberg. The Bishop of Strasbourg Berthold of Buchegg also had interest in this area, but agreed in a contract in 1534 with the Wurttembergers so that they the village up to the French Revolution | French Revolution remained.

In the years 1349, 1359 and 1385, the population went back through each strongly plague. 1870 died from a smallpox epidemic 39 people.

Structures

In the village there are the Gothic St. Nicholas Fountain ( Fontaine Saint -Nicolas ), also called Stock Brunen, from the 16th century and in the church of Saint -Sébastien grave stones from the 15th and 17th centuries. The place is known for its Renaissance houses.

Economy

In Beblenheim the wine plays a crucial economic role. The wine town is situated on the Alsace Wine Route. The single vineyard sunshine is one of the Alsace Grand Cru sites.

Personalities

Chrétien Oberlin, the founder of the wine institute of Colmar, was born here.
