Bedřich Ščerban

Bedřich Ščerban ( born May 31, 1964 in Jihlava, Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech ice hockey player who is manager of HC Dukla Jihlava General since 2008.

Career

Bedřich Ščerban began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the junior department of Dukla Jihlava ASD, for the seniors team he was in the first league, the highest Czechoslovak league, active 1983-1991. In the seasons 1984/85 season and 1990/91 he won the Czechoslovak league titles with Dukla Jihlava. He was particularly impressive in the season 1990/91 with nine goals and twelve templates in 51 games and was Zlata Hokejka as the best Czechoslovak ice hockey player. In addition, he was elected to the All-Star team the 1st league. The 1991/92 season spent the defender Tappara Tampere of the Finnish SM- liiga. He then stayed in northern Europe and moved to the 1992/93 season for Brynäs IF of the Swedish Elitserien. With his new club, he immediately became Swedish Champion. In the 1994/95 season, he was named runner-up with Brynäs. For the 1996/97 season Ščerban returned to his home and ran initially for the HC Petra Vsetín in the Czech Extraliga, which was founded after division of Czechoslovakia in 1993. However, this season he finished with his hometown club HC Dukla Jihlava, who also played in the Extraliga.

From 1997 to 2000, the three -time Olympian stood by the mosquitoes eating under contract with which he first took part in the second rate hockey Bundesliga before Ščerban with food in season 1998/99 reached as second division champions the rise in the German Hockey League. In this he was in the 1999/2000 season for eating on the ice, but there was not convincing in his first year DEL completely, so he moved to the second hockey league for EHC Freiburg. With Freiburg, he rose in the season 2002/03 also as second division champions in the DEL. As with senem first attempt in the DEL he could in the season 2003/ 04 not prevail completely in the German top flight, so he was only on 23 main rounds inserts. In the play- downs, he finally succumbed to the Freiburg Hannover Scorpions, which meant straight back down to the EHC. The 2004/05 season he began the HC Berounsti Medvědi in the second Czech league. After only twelve matches played Ščerban joined the league rivals SK Slavia Horacka Třebíč, where he spent the next two and a half years. Last played longtime national team in the 2007/08 season for his hometown club Dukla Jihlava, who was also staying in the meantime in the first second-rate league. Due to a serious illness at the glandular fever ended Ščerban his career in the age of 43 and served for the remainder of the season as an assistant coach.

Since March 2008 Ščerban is general manager of Dukla Jihlava. On 19 December 2013, was inducted into the Czech Hockey Hall of Fame.

Internationally

For Czechoslovakia Ščerban participated in the World Championships 1987, 1989, 1990, 1991 and 1992 in part. In addition, he was in the squad of Czechoslovakia at the Olympic Winter Games in Calgary in 1988 and 1992 in Albertville. In 1987, he took with his country also participate in the Canada Cup. At the world championships 1987, 1989, 1990 and 1992, he won the bronze medal with his team as well as at the Olympic Winter Games 1992.

For the Czech Republic, he took part in the World Championships in 1993, 1994 and 1995. In addition, he was in the squad of his country at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer. In the 1993 World Cup, he won the bronze medal with the Czech Republic.
