Belyov
Beljow (Russian Белёв ) is a town in Tula Oblast, Russia, on the left bank of the Oka. The city has 13,918 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).
History
Like many other towns on the Oka Beljow was first mentioned in a chronicle in 1147. After the disappearance of the Principality of Chernigov after the Mongol invasion of Russia Beljow became the seat of the local princely dynasty. The Prince of Beljow fluctuated between the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and Grand Duchy of Moscow until they moved to the latter. The city has one of the oldest churches in the Tula Oblast.
