Geography

The village Berkau located in the center of the Altmark, west of Stendal and east of Kalbe (Milde ). The hilly area around Berkau (up to 47 m above sea level. NN ) falls slightly from west to mildness and south to Secantsgraben.

History

Until December 31, 2009 Berkau was an independent municipality with the associated district Wartenberg and belonged to the now defunct administrative community Bismark / Kläden.
