Bernhard Bauer (skier)

Bernhard Bauer ( born October 10, 1967 in Oberwössen ) is a former German ski racer. He was in the 1990s, Germany's best slalom racers, once took part in Winter Olympics and three World Championships. In the World Cup he scored nine top - 10 finishes, he also won once each the slalom standings of the European Cup and the Nor- Am Cup. He became German champion in slalom in 1996.

Career

First international experience gained Bauer at the Junior World Championship 1985 in Jansa, where he was in the downhill and 44th in the giant slalom 35. Without first having reached the World Cup points, he took in 1991 at the World Championships in Saalbach -Hinterglemm part. There he reached the 15th place in the slalom. Five weeks later, he scored in the World Cup slalom in Lillehammer the 15th Place and thus won his first World Cup point. In the 1991/92 season, the first time in the top 30 of each race World Cup points received, he drove in five slaloms into the top 25 and reached the best result 16th in Wengen. He also won this winter slalom standings of the Nor- Am Cup. On 17 January 1993 drove Bauer ninth of the slalom in Lech for the first time in the top 10. At the 1993 World Championships in Morioka Shizukuishi he was 18th in the slalom, 21 in the combination and 35th in the giant slalom. Two other top-10 results followed at the beginning of the season 1993/94: In the slalom at Park City, he was tenth and ninth in slalom of Stoneham. He came at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer for use, but fell in the first slalom passage out.

Two ninth places - he achieved better results are not in the World Cup - he succeeded in the 1994/95 season in the slalom in Wengen and Tignes. Two in ten places in Garmisch -Partenkirchen and Bormio and another three top -20 results helped him to 15th place in the slalom World Cup - his best result in the World Cup discipline. This winter, Bauer was also successful in the European Cup. He secured two wins in the two slalom in Tarvisio and three second places, winning the slalom standings and reached number four in the overall European Cup, equal on points with the Swiss Patrick dust. In the 1995/96 season were Bauers best World Cup results, two tenth places in the slalom in Park City and Madonna di Campiglio. In his last major international event, the World Cup in 1996 in the Sierra Nevada, he started only in slalom, but was disqualified in the first round. Three weeks after the World Cup, he became German champion in slalom in Zwiesel. As early as 1992 he had reached the second place in the German Cup slalom behind Peter Roth.
