Berre-l'Étang

Berre- l'Étang ( Occitan: Berra de l' Estanh or Berro de l' Estang ) is a commune with 13,840 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Bouches -du -Rhône in the Provence- Alpes- Côte Riviera; it belongs to the district Istres and Canton Berre- l'Étang.

Geography

Berre- l'Étang is located on the Etang de Berre, 30 km from Marseille and Aix -en- Provence. Here flows the River Arc in several creeks in the marsh.

History

  • " Berra " Cité in the 11th century
  • In the 12th and 13th centuries a Seigneurie the Lords of Les Baux, which was responsible for the founding of the market in 1291.
