Biel/Bienne (administrative district)
The Administrative District Biel / Bienne in the canton of Bern was founded on 1 January 2010. It belongs to the administrative region of Zealand and includes 19 municipalities in an area of 97.63 km ² with a total of 95'718 inhabitants (As of December 31, 2012)
Although the smallest in terms of area, is the administrative district of Biel / Bienne, as measured by the number of inhabitants, the fourth-largest administrative district in the canton.
As the sole administrative district consists of bilingualism in dealing with citizens. Therefore, the official business in German and / or French are out.
The main town is Biel / Bienne, although the headquarters of the decentralized administration of the Canton of Bern in Nidau Castle, seat of the former administrative district Nidau located.
