Boussières

Boussières is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté. It is the capital of the canton in the Arrondissement Boussières Besançon.

Geography

Boussières is located at 275 m, about 13 km southwest of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located on the western edge of the Jura, on a hill at the western foot of the Mont, south of Doubstals.

The area of ​​5.58 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the western French Jura. The main part of the territory occupied by the hill of Boussières and south adjacent wide opening, which opens west to the Doubs Valley. The western and northern boundary runs along the Doubs, which reaches out here in a large arc to the south and flows through a wide Talniederung. To the southeast, the municipality's area extends to the ridge of Montgardot which separates the valleys of Doubs and Loue. Here the highest elevation of Boussières is achieved with 452 m.

Neighboring communities of Boussières are Torpes and Thoraise in the north, Vorges -les-Pins in the east, Quingey, Abban -Dessus -Dessous and Abban in the south and Osselle in the West.

History

The territory of Boussières was settled very early, which could be demonstrated by finds from the Bronze Age and the Gallo- Roman era. The place name is derived from the Latin word buxus ( boxwood ). Since the 11th century Boussières formed a parish. In 1548, almost the entire village was a major fire. Together with the Franche -Comté Boussières came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Attractions

Landmark of the village is the church of Saint- Étienne, which originally dates back to the 11th century. From this time the Romanesque bell-tower; the porch was created in 1574 and rebuilt the ship from 1725 to 1727. In the old town several houses from the 17th to 19th centuries have been preserved.
