The Federal Highway 93 (abbreviated as BAB 93) - Short form: Highway 93 ( Abbreviation: A 93 ) - is 268 km long and leads from the courtyard into the Holledau and further south of Rosenheim to Kiefersfelden on the German- Austrian border. It consists of two sections, which are not related: the northern part Hochfranken - Holledau and the southern triangle Inn valley - the border crossing Kiefersfelden ( Austria ). The connection between the two sections was scheduled but has not been realized until now. It is a federal road 15n currently under construction. At the northern end of the A 93 ends in Hochfranken northeast of Hof, near the village Trogen in the A 72

History

The architectural history of this highway went on for two generations. Work on this highway began as early 1936. 1940, before the wartime setting, the 23 km long section between the motorway Holledau and Elsendorf was already largely completed earthworks and bridge construction. In 1958 this section was at least one lane open to traffic, from the early eighties two lanes. In 1986 the section Holledau -Regensburg was completely finished.

However, the completion of the northern section to Hochfranken dragged on much longer. The first section between Nabburg and Pfreimd was released in the late 1960s. From there, the highway was piecewise extended south to Regensburg. The completion was delayed due to numerous appeals and only received a fatal accident involving a tanker truck on the parallel B 15 political priority. Only with the opening of the section in Regenstauf 1982, she went through from Regensburg to Pfreimd, 1987 to pastures. Closing the gap at court was only after the German reunification and thus caused increased traffic around the town on 20 December 2000. Junction Court East, which is less than 100 meters from the border of Saxony had, contrary to the original plan, in the should they run on the former border, to be pivoted on environmental grounds to the west.

The plans of the 1970s, after which the missing piece between Regensburg and Rosenheim should also be built as a motorway, were abandoned. Meanwhile, this section is planned as a four-lane, freeway -like Federal Highway 15n for the relief of the ring road around Munich, already released between Saalhaupt / hemlock and Neufahrn in Lower Bavaria to traffic and to Ergoldsbach under construction. A later Hochstufung this road to the motorway is possible due to the expansion of state.

The northern part of the A 93 is used by many travelers as a parallel to the A 9 motorway between the triangles Holledau and Hochfranken together with the A72 to bypass the Greater Nuremberg. Since German reunification, the traffic has increased significantly on this route. However, traffic density is much lower than on the A 9, which (like the Nuremberg area on the A 9) is due and appropriately designed signs at the two triangles on the lack of a larger conurbation along the A 93.

Special situation Regensburg

In the Regensburg region of the four-lane course of B 16, the so-called " western bypass " was upgraded to freeway. The highway cuts through residential areas here. Historically, here is the high density of exits: In general, the highway has no hard shoulder, but a continuous acceleration or deceleration lanes of a driveway the next exit. At the junction Regensburg lacking on the part of A 93, the distribution strips.

Between the AS - West Regensburg and Regensburg Prüfening the A 93 has been provided for noise abatement reasons with an enclosure. The top of the lid is used as a park -and- ride facility. The Pfaffensteiner highway bridge is one of only three bridges across the Danube in the city that are accessible without restrictions. Therefore, the A 93 is used in this section also by many drivers only for the urban traffic.

Inntalautobahn Rosenheim - Kiefersfelden

The section between Rosenheim and Kiefersfelden also is of great importance as it represents the beginning of the most important north-south route through the Alps and this route later in the through the Inn Valley, Tyrol to Innsbruck ( motorway A12 ) and continue on Brenner Pass to Verona in Italy leads ( Austrian A13/ital. A22 Brenner motorway). Therefore, there is usually large volume of traffic on this section of the A 93 between the A 8 and the German -Austrian border. Therefore, particularly at peak times ( esp. holiday start and end ), there is often congestion.

Has Especially since the EU enlargement also the heavy traffic greatly increased on this route, which traffic flow and road surfaces heavily loaded. The introduction of the HGV toll has in this case does not cause any significant reduction of traffic. For these reasons, the pavement was renewed in order to withstand the increased demands can also be a few years ago. Furthermore, however, still affect different driving bans (weekends, holidays, vacations ) in the Tyrol and Italy to freight, which then comes almost complete halt on this route. One consequence of the many occupied with rest stops and truck parking in the south of Munich, when the case of such a ban on driving occurs.
