Campolongo Pass

The Passo Campolongo (also Passo di Campolongo, dt Campolongo Pass or occasionally Campolongo saddle; gadertalisch - Ladin Ju de Ćiaulunch, buchensteinisch - Ladin Jou de Ciaulonch ) is a mountain pass in the Dolomites east of the Sella massif in Italy. It establishes the connection between Corvara ( Alta Badia ) and Arabba (Buchenwald ).
Location
The Passo Campolongo is a broad saddle between the sella in the west and also 3,000 m in excess Kreuzkofelgruppe ( Cunturines tip, Lavarela and Heiligkreuzkofel ) in the east. The latter is not visible from the pass, as the high alpine areas of the Pralongià are preceded this massif.
S.l.m. With a height of 1875 m is the Passo Campolongo the lowest of the four passes around the Sella ( Sella, Pordoijoch, Campolongo and Gardena Pass saddle ). In South Tyrolean side stems below the summit of the Rio Rutora, which opens into the Gader.
History
The pass road was built in the years 1898-1901. She had no special tourist importance in the pre-war period; the panorama does not reach the attractiveness of the other passes on Sella. In the second half of the 20th century, a trail system has been expanded on the mountain bikers in the summer on the road today. To the west of the pass in the area of crep de Mont ( 2198 m ) and the Bec des Roces ( 2187 m) several lifts were created.
The closed obstruction of the passport with hotel and apartment complexes occurred only with concentration of tourism in the winter sports and connection to the metropolitan area Dolomiti Superski.
Tourist infrastructure and sports
The buildings on the pass awakened today the impression of a single village.
The hiking trails are both descent through Campolungo Meadows to Corvara and Arabba and climbs into the sella into ( Bec de Roces, crep de Mont Vallon and hut ); Lift rides can shorten or replace these climbs. From the Vallonhütte of ( 2488 m ) Tours can via ferrata to Piz Boe, which are made with 3152 m the highest crag of the Sella group. Connections are found, for Boe - Seekofel ( 2908 m) and the Dolomites Alta Via 2 in the area of Bec de Roses run several ski runs.
Another hiking and skiing area is on the Pralongià on which there have been as early as 1932 a first mountain hut.
For cyclists, the pass is part of the four passes itinerary around the Sella. In winter it is often crossed in the popular Sella Ronda on skis.
