Caprino, Switzerland

Caprino is a small Swiss village on the southern shore of Lake Lugano and northern slope of Monte Caprino and is part of the district of Lugano Castagnola - Cassarate. On the west of the village boundary is the state line to the Italian exclave Campione d' Italia. Caprino belongs politically to the city of Lugano and is best reached by boat (3 km distance). There are two piers: S. Rocco and Cantine di Caprino. Across the street Caprino is not reachable via Campione. The road link from Lugano leads over the dam of Melide and from Maroggia (275 m above sea level. M. ) on a steep mountain road over Arogno (590 m above sea level. M. ) and the hamlet Pugerna to Caprino. This route is about 17 km long. From Caprino you can reach on foot the Swiss Customs Museum in Cantine di Gandria.
