Carmen Lundy

Carmen Lundy Latretta ( born November 1, 1954 in Miami, Florida, United States) is an American jazz musician (vocals, composition) and actress.

Life and work

Lundy sang as adolescents in gospel choirs and rhythm & blues bands. At the University of Miami she studied classical singing, then to 1978, composition and jazz theory. Then she moved to New York City, where she first sang at the Thad Jones / Mel Lewis Big Band and Ray Barretto. In a Broadway production, she played Billie Holiday and visited a little later on with the show " Sophisticated Ladies " Europe. From 1980, she led his own groups, in which, inter alia, John Hicks, Fred Wesley, Cedar Walton, Walter Bishop and her brother, Curtis Lundy, played. Already their debut album Good Morning Kiss ( 1985) came in Billboard Poll ( poll ) among the top ten in the jazz field. This was followed by tours and festival appearances in Europe. On the following albums, among others played Kenny Kirkland, Kevin Eubanks, Chico Freeman, Bob Mintzer, Randy Brecker and Harry Whitaker. Furthermore, they can be heard on some albums by Dino Betti van der Noot and Kip Hanrahan and has worked with Don Pullen, Marian McPartland, Ernie Watts and Bobby Watson. In 2006, she participated as Geri Allen's album Gastvokalistin at Timeless Portraits and Dreams.

Lundy also works as an actress and lectures at U.S. universities.
