Charles Felix of Sardinia

Karl Felix Josef Maria, Italian: Carlo Felice Giuseppe Maria ( born April 6, 1765 in Turin, † April 27, 1831 ibid ) was from 1821 to 1831 and King of Sardinia from 1824 to 1831 Duke of Savoy.

Life

Charles Felix, the fifth son of King Victor Amadeus III. of Sardinia and his wife Maria Antonia of Spain, was from 1799 to 1806 and from 1817 to 1821 governor of Sardinia. During this time he went before with success against bandits, but was also faced with famine. On March 21, 1821, his older brother Victor Emmanuel I. thanked result of a survey by the Carbonari secret society from the King of Sardinia. Because Charles Felix was staying at that time in Modena, Victor Emmanuel I. temporarily appointed his nephew Charles Albert regent. Progeny

Karl Felix I. married on April 6, 1807 in Turin Princess Maria Christina of the Two Sicilies, a daughter of Maria Carolina of Austria and King Ferdinand I of the Two Sicilies. The marriage remained childless. With it, the main line of the House of Savoy died out; his successor, Charles Albert was from the side line of Savoy - Carignano.

Aftereffect

1824 acquired Karl -Felix the consul Bernardino Drovetti a large collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts that form the basis of the Museo Egizio in Turin. The opera house, Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa is named after the king and duke.

The Super Strada SS131 (Porto Torres, via Sassari, Macomer and Oristano) and the SS 131dir (Olbia, San Teodoro, Siniscola and Nuoro to SS 131), which connects the north and the south of Sardinia (Cagliari), is colloquially in Sardinia also called " Carlo Felice ", because the construction of the main Cagliari to Sassari happened at the direction of Charles Felix.
