Charles Novi

Charles Martin Novi (* June 30, 1887 in Milan, † April 1966 in Mexico City, Mexico) was a native of Italy American art director and production designer, who was nominated once for an Academy Award for Best Production Design.

Life

A native of Italy Novi began his career as an art director and production designer in the film industry in Hollywood in 1936, directed by Archie Mayo the Drama Give Me Your Heart with Kay Francis, George Brent and Roland Young in the lead roles. He worked until 1944 at the scenic amenities of around sixty films, one of which was numerous short films.

At the Academy Awards in 1945 Novi was nominated along with Jack McConaghy for the Academy Award for Best Production Design in a color film, and indeed for love song of the desert, one arising under the direction of Robert Florey musical film starring Dennis Morgan, Irene Manning and Bruce Cabot.
