Charles/MGH (MBTA-Station)

Charles / MGH is the name of a metro station of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority ( MBTA ) on the border of Boston's neighborhoods West End and Beacon Hill in the state of Massachusetts in the United States. It lies on the eponymous Charles Street opposite the Massachusetts General Hospital ( MGH) in Boston end of the Longfellow Bridge and provides access to the line Red Line.

History

The station Charles / MGH was opened on 27 February 1932. In 2007, a renovation, during which a new access building was built with escalators and elevators, so that the station is completely accessible since the re-opening on 17 February 2007.

The underground station has two tracks, which are accessible via two side platforms.

Building

The metro station is located at the Charles Circle at the intersection of Cambridge Street and Charles Street. He is completely accessible. The station is named after the demolition of the Atlantic Avenue Elevated, Charlestown Elevated, Washington Street Elevated Elevated Causeway and next Beachmont, Science Park, Malden Center, Wollaston and Fields Corner one of the few remaining elevated railway stations in the network of the MBTA.

Surroundings

The station is one of the few in the MBTA network that offers no connections to bus lines.

In the immediate vicinity of the U -Bahn station located the former prison and today a luxury hotel Charles Street Jail, Hospital Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and Massachusetts General Hospital. Also near the Longfellow Bridge crosses the Charles River, beyond the Charles River Bike Path runs at some distance to the station over.
