Charlie Hunter

Charlie Hunter (* May 23, 1967 in Providence, Rhode Iceland ) is an American jazz, rock and fusion guitarist.

Life and work

Hunter grew up in Berkeley (California ) that graduated from Berkeley High School and took guitar lessons when guitarist Joe Satriani. Since the first album by the Charlie Hunter Trio of 1993 Hunter has recorded more than 15 other albums. During this time he has collaborated with many artists such as Miles Perkins, Scott Amendola, Will Bernard, Skerik, Jay Lane, Dave Ellis, John Ellis, Mimi Fox, Peter Apfelbaum, Stefon Harris, Kurt Elling, Bobby Previte, Greg Osby, Chris Lovejoy, Leon Parker, Karl Denson, Josh Roseman, John Santos, John Schott, D' Angelo, Calder Spanier, Mos Def, Norah Jones, Adam Cruz, Phil DeGruy, John Mayer, Curtis Fowlkes and Willard Dyson.

Hunter advocated unrestricted dissemination of his live concerts. The live events can be downloaded as a record of the Internet in digital form from the nonprofit Internet Archive in San Francisco.

Hunter is known for his game on an 8 -string guitar that was built by Ralph Novak of Novax Guitars. He simultaneously plays lead guitar on the top five strings ( tuned to ADGHe ) and bass guitar ( tuned to EAD) on the bottom three strings. By using a Hughes & Kettner Tube Rotosphere (Leslie rotary speaker simulator ), his unique way of playing a Hammond organ produces a similar sound. He also played a 7-string guitar in Michael Frantis political hip- hop group The Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy. This was the opening act for U2's 1992 Zoo TV tour.

He also participated in the soundtrack of the French film " Outre Mer " with " Garage A Trois " (jazz - fusion band ).
