Chongqing Rail Transit

Chongqing Rail Transit (Chinese:重庆 轨道 交通; Pinyin: Chongqing Jiaotong guǐdào ) is a transport company that operates two monorail lines and two subway lines in the Chinese city of Chongqing. Operator is the Chongqing Rail Transit Corporation (Chinese:重庆 市 轨道 交通 总公司). The monorails are designed as elevated railway that overcome significant gradients in part, the conventional metro lines are designed with steel rails to standard gauge.

Route network

Completed sections

  • Line 1 is a subway line (朝天门) in the east of the city center over Shapingba (沙坪坝) to the university town (大学 城) runs from the station Chaotianmen west of the city. The complete running underground route has 23 stations on 36.6 km of track length. Unlike the lines 2 and 3 it is than conventional underground run with steel wheels and rails, on which low-profile railcars operate. It was opened on 28 July 2011.
  • Line 2 is a monorail, the first section was opened in January 2005. It runs from the station Jiàochǎngkǒu (较 场 口) in the city center to the zoo in southwestern Chongqing. It was also the first section of the entire network. Then on July 1, 2006, the extension of the old terminus Zoo addition to the industrial area Xīnshāncūn (新 山村) in the district Dàdùkǒu (大 渡口). The system now has 18 stations on a route length of 19.15 kilometers.   • The line 3 is also a monorail like the line 2, but is equipped with newer rolling stock. On December 30, 2011, two extensions were in operation: south to the station Èrtáng (二 塘) near the Jiaotong University in the south of the city (district Nan'an ) and head north to Chongqing Jiangbei Airport. On 28 December 2012, an extension was made in the south to the station Yudong (鱼洞) on 55.5 km length of the route this north-south diameter line runs at 39 stations.
  • Line 6 is a metro diameter line between the northwest and the southeast of the city. The first phase runs from Lǐjiā (礼 嘉) by Wulidian (五里店), includes 10 stations at 19 km length and was opened on 28 September, 2012. On May 15, 2013, the Linienast of Lǐjiā about the exhibition center to the terminus Yuelai (悦来) was opened. On 31 December 2013, the opening of the branch line followed by Beibei (北碚) with six other stations.

Sections under construction

  • Line 2 is currently ( end of 2011) to a 6.2 -km section until the provisional terminus Yudong (渝 洞) on the right bank of the Yangtze River expanded in Banan district, where they will take on the already completed line 3.
  • Line 3 undergoes an extension to the north by 7 stops to Jǔrénbà (举人 坝).
  • The line 6 is replaced by an extension to the southeast to the city's tea garden (茶园). The branch after Beibei expected to grow by two stops to Wǔlùkǒu (五 路口).

Sections in planning

In the medium term a total network of 18 lines with 820 kilometers of track length is provided, which will open up either underground, elevated or ground-level S-Bahn ( Light Railway ) the main districts of the city core and selected suburbs of Chongqing.

The following projects are to be implemented urgently:

  • The line 1 is extended to the large settlement of Bishan (壁山).
