History

Construction of the first line

Tianjin is an important trading city because of its river port at the confluence of the Hai He with the Grand Canal. Middle of the 20th century, the road traffic and the resulting air pollution rose sharply. The leaders of the city therefore decided to discontinue the operation of the outdated tram network and replace it with a metro network. Because of the lack of financial resources could be started with the construction in 1970.

In order to reduce construction costs the bed of a disused canal was used as Trassee, so that the metro is only about two to three meters below the road surface. There were only about a thousand trained construction workers working on the site, the remaining workers were volunteers from factories, schools and other institutions of the city. At times, more than two thousand volunteers working on the site. The first 3.6 km long section of today's line 1 was completed in 1976 and included the four stations Xiaobailou, Yingkou Dao, Anshan Dao and Haiguangsi. The other works were delayed due to the Tangshan earthquake, they were resumed only in 1979, so in 1980, the second 1.6 km section could be taken with the stations expan Lu and Xinanjiou in operation. A further extension of 7.4 km with eight stations followed on 28 December 1984 in which the Westast today's line was completed 1. The line was operated with trains by Nippon Sharyo.

Renovation

End of the 90s, the subway was outdated and run down. Comfort stations and vehicles no longer corresponded to the usual in East Asia levels of a modern mass transit system, the trains were rare and were often late. In 2000, therefore, a comprehensive renovation, modernization and expansion program for the metro line was developed.

The operation was discontinued on 1 September 2001 for the renovation work, which began on 21 November. The stations were provided with half-height platform screen doors, extend the line to the east by eight stops to Shuanglin and commissioned on 6 December 2006 with new features as line 1 again. First test drives took place already on 12 June of the same year.

Construction of additional lines

Even before the company was set to the first metro line for the renovation began on 18 May 2001, the construction of Line 9 The first section of Zhongshan Men by Donghai Road, the terminus of the East, was on March 28, be opened to traffic in 2004. Initially, only four were intermediate stations operated, the remaining eight stations were taken gradually to 1 March 2006, has on 28 March 2006, the line was converted to fully automatic operation. On 1 May 2011 the line was extended to three stations to the west towards the city center until Shiyijing Road, on October 15, 2012 by a further two stops to the Tianjin Railway Station. Operator of over fifty -kilometer line is the Binhai Mass Transit Corporation, a joint venture of several companies that are involved in the development of new neighborhoods and industrial areas in the east of Tianjin, as well as the local port authority.

On 10 May 2007 the tram was built in system Translohr was opened by the Special Economic Zone of TEDA as Translohr line 1.

Published in 2009, the authorities of Tianjin plans to build eight subway lines and several tram lines. The subway lines 5 and 6 are already under construction and are scheduled to open in 2015. The timing of the opening of the other lines have not yet been announced.

Line 2 was put into operation after extended delays during construction on July 1, 2012 in two separate sections because during the construction at the station Jiguo Dao penetrated water from the Hai River in the tunnel so that it collapsed and spilled a tunnel boring machine. The affected section may temporarily not be put into operation. Since the recovery of the tunnel boring machine is too expensive, it was decided to abandon it and to build a new tunnel to the trapped machine around.

Line 3 was on 15 October 2012.
