Chris Cheek

Chris Cheek ( born September 16, 1968 in St. Louis / Missouri) is an American jazz saxophonist.

Cheek began playing at the age of twelve years saxophone. While studying at Webster University, he has performed with several local bands. He then went to Boston, where he studied until 1991 at the Berklee College of Music with Joe Viola, Hal Crook, and Herb Pomeroy.

Since he came to New York in 1992, he worked among others with Paul Motian Electric Bebop band, Seamus Blake The Bloomdaddies, Charlie Haden's Liberation Music Orchestra, Wolfgang Muthspiel, Luciana Souza, David Berkman, Stephan Crump, Jen Chapi and Guillermo Klein's Los Guachos. In addition to about sixty albums in which he participated as a sideman, he published at Fresh Sound Records recorded several albums as a bandleader.
