Fresh Sound

Fresh Sound, or Fresh Sound Records is a Spanish jazz label, which is based in Barcelona specializing in reissues of the American jazz.

Fresh Sound was initially founded in 1983 as a reissue label for jazz from the 1950s by Jordi Pujol. It appeared out of print albums from the classic jazz labels such as RCA Victor, Columbia, Capitol, Pacific Jazz, Liberty, Barclay, ABC - Paramount, Decca, Atlantic, Fantasy, Blue Note, Roost, Roulette, Bethlehem, Argo and jazz recordings now largely forgotten small label like of Andex, Hi -Hat, GNP, Everest, HiFi Jazz, Lighthouse, Counterpoint, Signature, Jubilee, Esoteric, Dawn and others.

The label brought new releases out of print recordings by Manny Albam, Chet Baker, Pete Candoli, June Christy, Buck Clayton, Sonny Criss, Miles Davis and the Hi -Hat All Stars, Blossom Dearie, Maynard Ferguson, Coleman Hawkins, Bobby Jaspar, Mark Murphy, Jack Nimitz, Charlie Parker, Art Pepper, Gene Quill, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Annie Ross, Paul Quinichette, Jimmy Raney, Shorty Rogers, Pete Rugolo, Howard Rumsey 's Lighthouse All Stars, Cy Touff, Stu and Claude Williamson. Fresh Sound also released rare Sessions of American artists who emerged in Spain, such as the Barcelona sessions by Don Byas, and George Johnson 1947/1949, pictures of the Madrid Jazz Group from 1964 to 1981, Frank Wess ' Session of 1992 with the Paris -Barcelona Swing Connection.

In the 1990s, the company expanded its activities to younger artists ( Fresh Sound New Talent ) and has since published CDs by Ambrose Akinmusire, Seamus Blake / Kurt Rosenwinkel, Rebecca Martin, Brad Mehldau, Dave Liebman and the Lluis Vidal Trio, Chris Cheek, Max Johnson, Vinny Golia and Spanish jazz musicians such as Pablo Ablanedo, Omer Avital, Gorka Benitez, Albert Bover, Vardan Ovsepian and Nat Su.

For his outstanding work and his artist catalog reissues the label from the French Académie du Jazz awarded the Prix de la Meilleure Réédition ou du Meilleur Inédit say Prix Maurice Cullaz 2012 was excellent.
