Chulym, Novosibirsk Oblast

Chulym (Russian Чулым ) is a town in Novosibirsk Oblast (Russia) with 11,568 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located in the southeastern part of the West Siberian Plain, about 130 km west of the Oblasthauptstadt Novosibirsk, at the opening into the endorheic Tschanysee Chulym River, which gave the place its name. The climate is continental.

The city is the administrative center of the Chulym Rajons same name.

History

Chulym was created in 1762 as a settlement Tschulymskoje ( Чулымское ) in the establishment of the Siberian tract. 1937, the status of an urban-type settlement was awarded the 1947, and the place under the present name of a town.
