Koltsovo, Novosibirsk Oblast

Koltsovo (Russian Кольцово, scientific transliteration Kolcovo ) is an urban-type settlement in the Novosibirsk Oblast (Russia) with 12,319 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ). It borders the south-east of the regional capital Novosibirsk and is located at Inja inflow Saboburycha. As one of the 14 communities in Russia ( 2008) Koltsovo law has the status of a Naukograd (literally "City of Science " ) held.

History

In April 1974, the creation of a research institute for molecular biology was initiated by a decree of the Soviet government. The new institute to be built near Novosibirsk and the local scientific institutions of Akademgorodok. To this end, a general plan for a new Institute settlement was worked out, which provided the structure of a city's infrastructure up to 25,000 inhabitants. From 1977 until 1979, when Koltsovo was officially recognized as a town, there was a first residential district for academics. The name Koltsovo was awarded the settlement in honor of the Soviet biologist Nikolai Koltzov ( 1872-1940 ).

Economy and Transport
