Football

Known far beyond the borders of Chile, the association is mainly due to its professional football team. This plays its home games in Estadio San Carlos de Apoquindo, which has 20,000 seats. Universidad Católica is one of the most successful football clubs in the country and won nine league titles since 1949.

In the Copa Libertadores are over 20 participations to book. Here, UC reached the semi-finals five times: in 1962 against Santos FC, 1966 against Peñarol Montevideo and in 1969 against Estudiantes de La Plata and in 1984 against Independiente of Argentina.

For the most international success came UC in 1993, when the team only lost in the final of the São Paulo FC. Since this gave up the right to start in the Copa Interamericana, UC was allowed to play as representatives against Deportivo Saprissa of Costa Rica - and won the title.
