Cognières

Cognières is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Cognières situated at an altitude of 268 m above sea level, about 18 km southeast of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located on a plateau between the valley of Ognon in the southeast and the Talniederung the Ruisseau de Bouhans in the west, at the edge of the wooded heights of the Bois du Petit Pas.

The area of ​​3.93 km ² municipal area includes a portion in the region of the middle Ognon Valley. However, the area does not reach the river, but only up to the steep slope of a baffle -flung northwest wide meandering curve Ognon. The main part of the site is occupied by a plateau, which consists of limestone of the Upper Jurassic period and is on average 280 m. It is mainly passed with arable and meadow land. For drainage south to Ognon the Ruisseau de Bouhans, which flows in a valley which is sunk into the plateau provides. To the west of the municipality floor extends to the Bois de Bouhans, to the north in the Bois du Petit Pas. Here the highest elevation of Cognières is achieved with 321 m.

History

The territory of Cognières been inhabited since the Neolithic period. Written mention of the village is in the year 1324. Already in the 12th century there was a church that was subordinate to the monastery of Baume- les -Dames. Cognières belonged in the Middle Ages to the County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. With the opening of the railway line from Besançon Lure the place was tied late 19th century to the French railway network. Today the line is shut down, however. Since 2000 Cognières is a member of the comprehensive 21 villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays de Montbozon.

Attractions

The village church of Cognières was rebuilt in the 18th century. For rich room amenities include a crucifix from the 16th century, as well as the altar and the pulpit from the 18th century. The valley of the Ruisseau de Bouhans is spanned by the viaduct of the former railway line.

Population

With 96 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Cognières one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1906 174 persons were still counted ), only relatively small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1970s.

Economy and infrastructure

Cognières was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road, leading from Montbozon after Esprels. Further road links exist with Rougemont and Presle.
