Courroux is a municipality in the district of Delémont canton of Jura in Switzerland. The former German name Lüttelsdorf is used today any more.

Geography

Courroux is located on 418 m above sea level. M., 2 km east of the cantonal capital of Delémont. The scattered village extends into the plains east of the Birs in the central part of the basin Dels Berger, a broad valley in the Jura folds.

The area of ​​19.7 km ² large municipality area includes a section in the central part of the intensively farmed level of Dels Berger basin. In Courroux scolding Bach (French Schelten ) opens into the Birs. Population

With 3134 inhabitants ( as at 31 December 2012) is the fourth largest Courroux municipality in the canton of Jura. Of the 91.7 % inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 3.5 % and 1.5 % Italian-speaking (as of 2000). The population of Courroux increased to 1970 slowly but continuously. Economy

Courroux has long been an embossed by agriculture village. History

The area of Courroux can look back on a long tradition of settlement. 20th century pottery were found from the Late Bronze Age to the Roc de Courroux in the first half, coming from a settlement. The square was used in the period 1100-800 BC. Other discoveries can be dated to the Iron Age. In the area of the present village Courroux were found remains of a Gallo-Roman villa and some 150 graves that were created in the 1st to 3rd century AD and significant grave goods ( vessels, coins, statuettes, tools) contained.

First mention is Courroux 1146 under the German name Lütoltesdorf In 1148 appears the French name Corolt ​​. As one of the 13 villages of the free reign Delsberg came Courroux 1271 to Prince-Bishopric of Basel. Between 1793 and 1815 it belonged to France and was initially part of the Département du Mont- Terrible, associated from 1800 with the Department of Haut -Rhin. Attractions
