Soulce

Soulce was a municipality in the district Delémont the canton of Jura in Switzerland. The former German name Sulz is no longer in use today. On January 1, 2013, it merged with the municipalities of Lower Court, Courfaivre, Glovelier and Undervelier the new community Haute- Sorne.

Geography

Soulce is located on 605 m above sea level. M., 9 km south-west from the cantonal capital Delémont ( straight line ). The former street line village extends to the main thing on the northern side of the creek Soulce in a valley south of the Dels Berger basin.

To Soulce include several individual farms. Neighboring communities of Soulce are Undervelier, Courfaivre, Courtetelle and Châtillon in the Canton of Jura and Moutier, Perrefitte and Souboz in the Canton of Bern.

Population

With 236 inhabitants ( as at 31 December 2012) is one Soulce to the smaller municipalities of the canton of Jura. Of the 89.4 % inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 9.4 % and 0.4 Italian-speaking (as of 2000). The population of Soulce amounted in 1850 to 441 inhabitants, 1900 to 394 inhabitants. During the 20th century, the population has decreased significantly.

Economy

The community is still predominantly agricultural. There are few jobs outside the agricultural sector in the village. Many workers (over 50 %) are therefore commuters.

Traffic

Soulce is off the major roads in an enclosed on three sides Juralängstal. Main access road is that of Undervelier, a narrow forest road runs across the north adjacent Jura mountains directly after Courfaivre. The village is served by a bus line that runs from Lower Court via Undervelier after Soulce, to public transport.

History

First mention is the village in 1148 as Sulza in a document by Pope Eugene III. , Of the monastery of Moutier- Grandval are the rights to collect the tithes in Soulce. 1486 was the place where the Prince-Bishopric of Basel. Until 1745 Soulce and Undervelier formed a community, then Soulce became independent and formed since 1802 also an independent parish. Between 1793 and 1815, the village belonged to France and was initially part of the département du Mont- Terrible, associated from 1800 with the Department of Haut -Rhin. By the decision of the Congress of Vienna Soulce came in 1815 to the canton of Bern and on 1 January 1979 at the newly founded Canton Jura.

Attractions

The parish church of Saint -Laurent was built in 1711 in place of a Gothic chapel. The parsonage dates back from 1802. Since 1747 the water power of the stream Soulce was used by a mill that was built so that the Bach and his side-channel flows through directly under the house. The building of the former school was built in 1878.

Clubs

The 300m Rifle Club of Soulce Société de tir St- Laurent was founded in 1889 and is one again in 2006 over 30 members. With four electronic shooting targets of the shooting range is a smaller but has become a meeting place for the youth with ten Jungschützen 2006.
